Within of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) there are 5 specialized structures for science, research and laboratory-diagnostic activities and 9 Regional Testing Laboratories. In the area of the Animal health, Food and Feed, Plant Health are defined 35 NRLs (within the structure of BFSA) and 5 NRLs (outside the structure of BFSA). The laboratories are accredited according to the requirements of the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025 and carry out tests related to animal health, food and feed safety, and plant health. They are serviced by highly-qualified experts that are always available to business entities and the consumers to perform numerous and various analyses. 
The regional testing laboratories (RTL) are located in the following Regional Food Safety Directorate (RFSD): RFSD-Blagoevgrad, RFSD-Varna, RFSD-Vratsa, RFSD-Gabrovo, RFSD-Plovdiv, RFSD-Sofia city, RFSD-Sliven, RFSD-Haskovo and RFSD-Shumen. The RTLs carry out tests of samples taken from more than one region in the country according to a distribution schedule. Their work is methodologically coordinated by the NRLs and Laboratory Control Directorate.
